Frequently Asked Question

Kundalini & Shaktipat Basics
What is Kundalini Awakening?

Kundalini Awakening refers to the activation of dormant spiritual energy located at the base of the spine. This energy ascends through the chakras, resulting in heightened awareness and spiritual enlightenment.

Shaktipat is the transfer of divine energy from a spiritual master to a seeker, facilitating the awakening of Kundalini energy. It can be transmitted through touch, gaze, or thought.

Yes, through Shaktipat. In today’s fast-paced world, many lack the time required for traditional Ashtanga Yoga practices, which demand dedication, discipline, and a lifestyle focused on spiritual practices such as Niyam, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, and Samadhi. An experienced guru or acharya can help awaken Kundalini through divine transmission, bypassing the need for prolonged practice.

Kundalini Awakening is safe when guided by an experienced spiritual teacher. It cannot revert to dormancy once activated.

  • Cleanses past life sanskaras caused by unfulfilled desires, wants, lust, and greed
  • Enhances thought processes, creativity, and clarity of mind
  • Guides individuals toward their life’s ultimate goal: to love and connect with God
  • Elevates consciousness, promoting love, compassion, mercy, and forgiveness

Note: These benefits are most effective when the aspirant meditates without desires or expectations. Results vary based on an individual’s level of consciousness and deeds (nityakarm).

The awakening of Kundalini can be observed through several signs: the person becomes easier going, their level of patience increases, and clarity emerges in their thought process. As a result, they consistently feel at ease and joyful, radiating a vibrant energy.

Only a qualified master or acharya can determine whether Kundalini has awakened.

No, Shaktipat is a spiritual practice that transcends religious boundaries, focusing on awakening one’s inner energy and consciousness.

A short answer would be ‘No’. Like mentioned in the previous question, there isn’t an express lane to becoming ‘Enlightened’ or become a ‘Sadguru’ or having supernatural powers. There is no magic wand that you’ll get from a Shaktipat session that’ll turn you into a Sadguru, this isn’t as simple as it may seem.
Once again we recommend that you do not associate the spiritual process with milestones and attainment of power. Instead look at it from a view of building a happier & healthier inward-looking life which is free of lust & material possessions, an ego-free spirit capable of loving unconditionally, and having the ability to look at the world in a completely new light with a new increased level of consciousness.

Why do spontaneous body movements and emotional releases occur after initiation? Can these movements be controlled?

Unfulfilled wishes and desires remain within the astral body. When the astral body begins to release these impressions in the form of sanskaras, the subconscious mind connects with the gross body. As a result, the gross body starts to express those past life sanskaras stored within the subconscious mind and astral body.
During a session, you may experience sensations like tingling, warmth, energy flow, or profound peace. Some individuals may also have visions, spiritual experiences, or emotional releases, depending on their past life sanskaras and level of consciousness. Due to the uniqueness of each aspirant, the level of consciousness varies from person to person. As a result, their feelings and understanding are experienced according to their individual level of consciousness.
After Shaktipat initiation, spontaneous movements (kriyas) such as crying, laughing, dancing, or random physical movements may occur. These kriyas happen as the energy flows through the body, cleansing physical and astral levels. While these movements cannot be consciously controlled, they are natural and temporary. The proficient Acharya regulates the kriyas according to what is essential for the aspirant.

No, the absence of kriyas does not indicate inefficacy. The effects of Shaktipat are unique to each person and may manifest differently.

Kriya-Shakti is the divine, conscious power, working through an initiate to purify and transform them to attain liberation. These spontaneous movements or expressions are a sacred part of the Kundalini awakening process, serving to purify the body, mind, and consciousness. Ridiculing or mocking another’s kriyas is not just disrespectful—it is an insult to the Divine Power itself. Such mockery may shake an aspirant’s faith, making them self-conscious or hesitant about their own spiritual experiences, potentially leading them to abandon meditation altogether.

Instead of ridicule, one should strive to understand their deeper significance. By studying them with sincerity and reverence, an aspirant can gain insight into the transformative power of Shakti. Instead of skepticism, they should cultivate devotion and gratitude, using these manifestations as inspiration to deepen their own spiritual practice. Respect for kriyas is, ultimately, respect for the divine energy freely guiding one’s inner evolution.

The duration varies based on each individual’s spiritual readiness, uniqueness, and receptivity.

No prior practice is needed. However, an open mind, devotion, willingness, and surrender to the guru can enhance the experience.

Shaktipat can be received by anyone with human consciousness. Even infants can receive Shaktipat in the presence of a proficient acharya, often forming Gyan Mudra (a symbolic hand gesture) naturally during initiation.

There are no risks when the process is guided by an experienced spiritual teacher.

We don’t want to disappoint you but if you are looking for a shortcut to get ‘Enlightened’ or become a ‘Psychic’ or have supernatural ‘third eye powers’ overnight, then we want to let you know that such shortcut doesn’t exist. It takes years of hard work and dedication for Himalayan yogis to get to those spiritual heights. The spiritual process can be compared to enrolling in school – you have to go from kindergarten through university to be a doctorate.

Kundalini awakening is just the initiation, and it has to be followed by your dedication in lifestyle & regular meditation which will continue to grow you through your spiritual journey. Having a Guru lead you through the way helps keep you focussed and the Guru can use their spiritual energy to tailor your Kundalini to what best suits you (think of your school curriculum tailored to your learning ability & needs). This includes helping you release your past life samskaras.

We recommend that you do not associate the spiritual process with milestones and attainment of power – this is counter-productive to the spiritual journey in the first place. Instead look at it from a view of building a happier & healthier inward-looking life which is free of lust & material possessions, an ego-free spirit capable of loving unconditionally, and having the ability to look at the world in a completely new light with a new increased level of consciousness.

There cannot be a single formula applicable to every person. Just like each student responds differently to each course in school; similarly, in spiritual school, every class and every experience is going to be different for each individual. With every session, a lot of work is being done on you. Shaktipat sessions aren’t necessarily focussed on giving you strong experiences every time but rather giving you the deep-rooted foundation to prepare you for this long journey.
Think of a spiritual journey like a very long train journey. You’ll go through different destinations every day and every hour. Each destination will be different with different views and different landscapes. Each view will make you feel differently; sometimes happy, sometimes sad, some very intense emotion and sometimes indifferent but the good thing is that once you’re aboard and once the train leaves its station, it never stops. So irrespective of the intensity & how you feel, you continue to move through your journey each day. Your Guru knows what needs to be done to take you through your journey; so just trust the process and be receptive to the Guru with all your dedication.

How should one prepare for a Shaktipat session?

While no elaborate preparation is necessary, it is beneficial to approach the session with a clean body and mind. Taking a bath, wearing clean clothes, and sitting with a calm and receptive attitude helps. It is advised to avoid heavy meals, alcohol, or intoxicants before the session.

Silent meditation or mantra meditation as guided by the acharya is ideal. Avoid expectation-led practices; instead, sit in surrender and devotion. Let the energy guide you.

A satvik (pure) lifestyle helps—this includes a vegetarian diet, minimal use of intoxicants, reduced material desires, ethical conduct, compassion, and regular meditation. Avoiding lustful content and controlling the senses (indriyas) also helps in preserving and directing spiritual energy.

Daily meditation is highly encouraged, ideally twice a day—once in the morning and once before sleeping. Regularity builds inner strength and enhances your spiritual receptivity.

Yes. Shaktipat doesn’t require renunciation. You can live a normal life while integrating spiritual practices into your daily routine. It gradually transforms your approach to life from within.

Is Shaktipat the same as hypnosis or mind control?

Absolutely not. Shaktipat involves divine energy transmission and does not involve any mental manipulation or control. It is a purely spiritual and sacred process.

Unfortunately, yes—some may mimic kriyas, often subconsciously or due to peer influence. True kriyas arise spontaneously from the awakened energy and not through deliberate effort. Only an experienced Acharya can discern genuine experiences.

No. Awakening is the beginning of the journey. Enlightenment requires continued effort, grace, surrender, and inner purification over time.

Yes, gender is not a barrier to spiritual awakening. Women have the same potential for Kundalini awakening and spiritual realization.

This is a common myth. Kundalini is divine feminine energy—Shakti—that exists in every human being. When awakened properly under guidance, it is immensely beneficial.

These emotions may arise when the ego resists inner transformation. Trust the process, surrender to the Guru, and allow the energy to guide you. With continued meditation and guidance, these fears dissolve.

No. Shaktipat is universal. Anyone with genuine intent can benefit, regardless of religion or belief system.

Kundalini energy works subtly. Just because one doesn’t feel physical sensations doesn’t mean it’s ineffective. Some transformations happen quietly within.

Yes, repeated sessions can help deepen the experience, strengthen the energy flow, and accelerate spiritual growth.

No, it is a spiritual science that works through energy dynamics. Though experiences may feel miraculous, the process itself is grounded in spiritual discipline and divine grace.
